Comparing Medicare plans with insurance plans

Why add an Medicare insurance plan with your Original Medicare?

Medicare Part A and Part B have some serious disadvantages:

  • No out-of-pocket maximum
  • 20% coinsurance
  • No prescription drug coverage
  • Lack of dental, vision, and hearing coverage

Medicare insurance plans can help take care of these gaps and provide additional benefits.

Why Medicare Advantage is a good addition

Part C provides an out-of-pocket maximum of $8,300 for in-network services and $12,450 for out-of-network services. After you hit your limit, your Medicare Advantage plan pays 100% of any other eligible expenses you receive.

It also gives you additional benefits like:

  • Adult day-care services
  • Dental
  • Fitness memberships
  • Hearing
  • Nutrition programs
  • Prescription drugs
  • Over-the-counter drugs
  • Services and supports for those with chronic conditions
  • Transportation to doctor visits
  • Vision
  • Wellness programs

If you have a chronic health condition, you may also receive additional benefits specific to your situation. These could include things like meal delivery, home cleaning, education programs for your disease, visits to a nutritionist, or transportation to grocery stores.

However, benefits your plan offers may be different. Check with your Medicare insurance agent to see plan benefits.

Why you would choose a Medicare Supplement

Medicare Supplements take care of these Medicare cost-sharing responsibilities:

  • Medicare Part A coinsurance or copayment and hospital costs
  • Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment
  • First three pints of a blood transfusion
  • Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
  • Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
  • Medicare Part A deductible
  • Medicare Part B deductible***
  • Medicare Part B excess charges
  • Foreign travel emergency (up to plan limits)

*** Those who turn 65 after January 1, 2020 are not eligible for plans that offer this benefit

There are lettered plans A through N that cover different percentages of these copayment responsibilities.

Why you would need Medicare Part D

Original Medicare does not cover prescription drugs, so Part D is a Medicare insurance plan plugs that gap for you.

Plans include both brand-name prescription drugs and generic drug coverage.

Each plan’s formulary includes at least two drugs in the most commonly prescribed categories and classes. All Medicare drug plans generally must cover at least two drugs per drug category.

I appreciate all the help I received. I thought my coverage was good for me. I was shown a new policy along with my current policy. The new policy was almost the same as my current policy, but better. I have better coverage, plus perks because I am a diabetic. I am excited to work with someone who cares about me and my needs.
